Sky Ride Leader Nigel Makes the News

Nigel Leaney had a long time away from the saddle, but in 2008 he got back on his bike – and hasn’t looked back since.

Cambridge-based Nigel was keen to spend more time with his children, and found their joint passion for cycling allowed all the family to enjoy some quality time together.

‘I got back into cycling after a gap of far too many years, and I’d forgotten just how much fun it was,’ he says. ‘Initially I thought I’d just get a bike to improve my fitness a bit. It was fun cycling with my children as they grew up – we’d mainly go on the safe trail around Grafham Water.’

‘The nice thing about Sky Ride Local is you see the rest of the family coming along.’

Although there are plenty of people who cycle in Cambridge, Nigel found that Sky Ride Local rides in the city offered something different:

‘Cambridge, as we know, is full of cyclists! Probably most of them only use their bikes for commuting though. The nice thing about Sky Ride Local is you see the rest of the family coming along.’

Now a British Cycling trained Ride Leader, Nigel guides rides in the Cambridge area and helps to inspire even more people to fall in love with cycling. His rides are aimed at a wide variety of people, from families looking for a fun, free day out, to those looking to keep fit this summer.

‘It’s great to be able to use the ride leader skills I’ve been taught to keep a small group together, to encourage everyone and generally have a chat and enjoy yourself.’

Sky Ride Local makes it even easier for people to get out on their bikes and have fun with friends and family. ‘The rides are all pretty steady, always sociable,’ Nigel says. ‘They usually involve a stop for tea and cake… so what’s not to like?!’
